World War Z Analysis

The trailer for 'World War Z' is about a man, Brad Pitt the protagonist, trying to save the human race from a zombie apocalypse. From the beginning of the trailer since we are shown that Brad Pitt is featuring in the movie, we get an idea that the movie is going to be good. As Brad Pitt is an A list celebrity, very well known in today's society. In the beginning of the trailer, we are shown an equilibrium scene, of an ideal perfect family, as there bright lighting, suggesting happiness, and a cheery atmosphere. However this change’ as the camera is directed at the TV, we see the disruption of the movie. Though the words 'zombie’ or ‘apocalypse' isn't mentioned we are given hints that it is about to commence by the disfigured bodies chasing people and the amount of destruction. This could be one of the ways to entice the target audience as they would be curious and eager to find out what’s next.

To close up any confusion the audience may have, the little girl in the trailer is used to bring the topic up and introduce it to the audience. This could be due to the fact that she is a child, and children are normally connoted as innocent people and as her attention is caught by the disruption on TV; she is curious to find out what's happening. As the trailer goes on, the happiness disappears within 15 seconds as people are shown in distressed and seem petrified, as this happens the lighting goes dark and you see the panicked look on their faces.

The protagonist of the movie in the trailer, Brad Pitt, is shown to be quite masculine as he has an unkempt look, as well as a muscular body, which is shown through his tight fit top. He also has stubble shave on his face which reflects his unkempt masculine look. Also throughout the trailer, you don't hear any voice overs as we only hear dialogue linking to the conflict with in the movie, this gives the audience a sense of what genre it is, which is 'Dystpopian Sci-fi.'

One aspect of the trailer that attracts the audience’s attention is that the trailer starts of in linear order and then goes to non-linear order, only showing the audience parts of the main action. This is to keep the audience wanting more and for them to go pay and see it, as they only see disruption and want to see if there will be any resolution to this apocalypse. The target audience for this movie would range around from teenagers to adult, being typically male than female, as boys are normally in to dystopian sci-fi movies. Also the props used in the movie suggest gender too, as there is a lot of military transportation and a lot of guns and destruction, this also reflects on how serious the matter exactly is as the military has been called in to take over and stop this distress.

In conclusion, the trailer gives the movie a great look, as it highlights the main action and problems. This makes it more appealing to the audience to go and see it. Also the trailer portrays characters well when showing masculinity and sexuality as the presentation of the character is key to defining who they are.
